The BugShot 2012 meeting at Archbold Biological Station in Florida is our core annual event, serving as both a workshop and a mini-conference for insect photography enthusiasts. We have chosen the location for Archbold’s honored place in entomological history. The station, set in the sand ridges of Florida’s central highlands, played a central role in developing the discipline of chemical ecology and remains an important site for studies of biological diversity. Archbold’s rich insect fauna includes more than 1,000 species of moths & butterflies, over 100 species of ants, and numerous other buggy treasures including stick insects, ant lions, bombardier beetles, pygmy mole crickets, and more.
This year’s event takes advantage of the station’s newly constructed conference facilities. Sessions will cover macro-photography equipment, techniques for field and for studio, methods for working with live insects, and specialized practices like focus-stacking and high-speed flash. Course material is relevant for both digicam and SLR camera systems.
Registration fee waivers are available for up to three currently-enrolled university or high school students. If you are interested in applying for a student fee-waiver, contact Alex Wild (alwild [at] myrmecos.net).
